Christopher Dock Mennonite High School

Bible Department

Mission Statement

The Bible department at Christopher Dock seeks to nurture students' relationship with Jesus Christ and the church and invite them to accept God's story as their own. This task is accomplished through instruction in the story of God's people, examining the context of Scriptures, and also through the relating of Scripture to personal and social issues.

Departmental Objectives

  • Appreciate the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, as the primary basis for Christian faith and life today

  • Understand the Bible as the unfolding story of God - a story that begins with the Creation and is carried down through Jesus to the church of today

  • Examine Scriptures in the historical context, and learn and develop skills (observation and interpretation) of Bible study, which will enrich both private and group study of the Scriptures

  • Learn about the Anabaptist-Mennonite heritage, discovering distinctive features while at the same time respecting the rich diversity of faith and practice within the worldwide community of Christian traditions.

  • Be cognizant of the Christian values, which result in personal and public lives of service and mission, and in doing justice and sharing mercy to all peoples

  • Experience an atmosphere of trust in the classroom, where doubt and faith, success and failure can be shared
