Music Department

Mission Statement

The music department at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School is dedicated to the cultivation of excellence in musical expression and scholarship. We recognize our obligation to provide every student with an opportunity to hear, understand, and participate in music making. We seek to undertake that task in the light of a biblical perspective, which describes the making of music as an act of worship and service, calls for excellence as the norm of stewardship, and relates all of human creativity to the divine creative impulse.

Departmental Objectives

• Gain an intellectual understanding of the rudiments of music theory

• Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of musical forms and styles

• Improve skills of vocal and/or instrumental techniques

• Envision music as a lifelong avenue of expression

• Develop musical leadership skills in worship

• See music as a means of corporate religious experience

• Build social skills through ensemble activities

• Demonstrate care and maintenance of voice and instruments

• Develop skills in appropriate performance practices

• Appreciate the artistic expressions of all peoples, past and present

• Develop creative skills through composition and musical interpretation

• Be an advocate for musical excellence in the surrounding community
