It is the mission of the Science Department to nurture in students a love, appreciation, and understanding of God's created universe. Through careful study and observation within a community of learners, students will develop the critical thinking skills necessary to be responsible stewards of the creation and to confront the complex issues facing our world today.
In alignment with the Graduate Profile, those emerging from the science program will be life-long learners, equipped with the knowledge and confidence to ask questions about our world and work toward answers.
Students will approach phenomena with thoughtful, observational curiosity. They will learn of and discover connections in the multiplicity of facets of creation. They will learn to examine ideas with scientific skepticism while considering an idea's validity.
Students will gain insight through diligent inquiry. They will present what they learn with academic integrity and appropriate communication skills.
Students will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of the physical universe (Physics), humanity's ability to manipulate and create materials (Chemistry), and the amazing intricacy and chemistry of living things (Biology).
Students will grow in making positive contributions to our churches and communities, including living so as to care for the earth as humanity's womb and home for the foreseeable future.
Students will become more fully informed participants, better able to understand public policy issues, better able to contribute with wisdom in policy decisions at many levels; as an individual, as a family member, as part of a school or church, in the community, locally, nationally or globally.
Students will gain perspective on the historical development of scientific ideas and technological innovations.
