Social Studies Department
Mission Statement
Social studies deal with human relationships, thereby constituting a basic element in Christian education. Rooted in passionate faith in Jesus Christ, Anabaptist principles such as discipleship, peace, service, justice, and stewardship are highlighted. Social studies courses are designed to prepare conscientious, committed citizens to be competent, contributing members of a diverse, dynamic, and interdependent world.
Departmental Objectives
Understand and interpret economic, historic, geographic, political and social concepts, and recognize their interrelationships
Cultivate good problem-solving techniques and develop skills of critical thinking and effective communication
Develop a sense of self-understanding that enables use of one's gifts for service to church and society
Challenge societal values that are contrary to the standards of the Kingdom of God
Develop an awareness and sensitivity that recognizes and respects different perspectives and cultural patterns
Demonstrate a commitment to responsible citizenship both in the local and global community
Cultivate a lifestyle that reflects Christian stewardship of resources
