English Study SkillsReading Journals for Summer ReadingReview the directions for summer reading in the attached packet. Be sure to purchase your book so you can make notations in the margins, use sticky notes, and underline key lines. Your additional task as part of my English class is to complete a reading journal to turn in the first day of school, as well as the annotated book that you read. Use the sheet entitled Reader’s Log Starters to jumpstart your thinking process. Remember you are recording your thoughts as you read the book, not providing a summary of the book. § Choose a book from the attached list§ Break the book into 6 segments or page groupings, by dividing the number of pages in the book by 6. One entry will be completed for each of the 6 segments.§ Entries are to be about 200 words each.§ Typing the entries is necessary if you have poor handwriting.§ Journals will be graded. Late work will not be accepted.§ I also will be looking at your books the day you return to school to review your comments, notes and markers that you placed in the book as you read.§ If you read a book on tape or listen to an audio book, I still expect you to purchase the book and follow along as you listen, marking the book with notes and thoughts as you read.§ You will also have a writing assignment in class the first week of school related to the book that you read.
Pick something that interests you and that stretches your imagination and expands your global perspective. Enjoy the reading experience!!! Mrs. Grega |
